About
Welcome to Good Money Blog! In here you will find more information about this blog behind the scenes.
Why started this blog? I find it interesting that, even in this new millennium, we are shy of talking about money with our closed ones - family, friends, or co-workers. We never learned much about money at home or school. As a result, even when we can make money on our own, being financial dummies out in the real world, we are pretty much clueless about managing everything with a dollar sign ($). Around us, there’re financial professionals we think we can trust, but most of the times, they have a conflict of interest with us and are more interested in getting our money than helping us reach our goals. With this blog, I hope to raise your financial awareness as well as sharing my limited knowledge in personal finance and different aspects of life with each of you. Together, we can make a difference.
Who are you? My name is Allen, a 20-something guy living in the Midwestern US. I was raised in a middle-class family in a global city (not named NYC). Thanks to my generous parents, I graduated with two bachelor’s and a master’s degree with no debt. After college, I’ve been working in a corporate environment. A couple years ago, I was married and now have a lovely wife. We love going to malls (strictly bargain hunting and windows shopping), fine dining, and travel. While we’re still enjoying our long honeymoon, we do plan to have kids few years down the road.
What is your road to financial goals? As a college student, I learned the hard way by experiencing exciting day-trading and swing-trading during the dot-com bubble. As you might have guessed, the end result wasn’t so good. I lost a big chunk of the money earned during my internship and few part-time jobs. Trying to avoid the same mistakes, I read a lot of articles and books about personal finance and have become a more disciplined saver/spender/investor. As a result, I started living a frugal life and set up a Roth IRA before graduating from college. With my first job, I also took advantage of my company’s 401(k) plan. In my third year of working, my then fiancée (now wife), still a full-time student, and I saved enough to buy a cute single family home as a love nest. Since then, we kept on going by maximizing our IRA’s and 401(k) every year. My road may be different from yours but I’m sure, by sharing our experience and point of view (please leave your comments), we will be able to learn from each other.
I hope you will enjoy your stay in Good Money Blog and remember “Money is good when it is well spent“!
